20 Questions Book Tag

Hello readers! Today I am bringing you all a tag. It’s been almost a month since I posted one, so it’s time for another!

I have no idea who originally created this tag. I have searched dozens of blogs and no one else seems to know either. If you know, please let me know and I will credit them.

How many books are too many for a series?

I don’t think there is such a thing as too many books! If the books are of quality, I’ll read them until the end. I’m more likely to enjoy a series overall if there are a ton of books.

How do you feel about cliffhangers?

I don’t mind them if the next book is already out. They are part of the reason I don’t love starting ongoing series! A lot of the time, authors won’t have an individual storyline within each book. I don’t love when that happens.

I think the main issue is that MOST people don’t like episodic series and I do! I think authors write more books with cliffhangers to avoid each one having a unique plot.

Hardcover or paperback?

I love paperbacks! Paperbacks are cheaper and not as heavy. I hate owning books over 450 pages which are hardcovers. They’re too clunky to hold. The only author that I have a majority hardcovers is Stephen King and I struggle so much to read them because of their weight!

I am also a bargainer at heart. It doesn’t matter how much money I have, I will always seek out the cheapest items! Paperbacks are significantly cheaper.

Favorite book?

I hate this question. I don’t like picking a favorite of anything! I can say I do have a favorites shelf on my Goodreads, if you would like to see ALL of my favorite books.

Usually, if someone asks me this question, I will just answer with one of my favorite books of the year. So, I would say House of Earth and Blood. This book has everything I love in books. I loved all the characters, the sassiness, and all the emotions that came along with it.

Least favorite book?

Unlike favorites, I have no issue picking a least favorite. I read Project Cain almost 10 years ago now and I still remember it like it was yesterday.

The idea of this book is clones of series killers. Each clone is put into a different life situation, in attempt to find if it is nature or nurture that creates serial killers. The main character is a clone of Jeffrey Dahmer and has a fairly decent life. They would take another Jeffrey Dahmer clone and put him in an abusive home. The idea of this story is a solid one, but the execution was TERRIBLE. I would love to read another book like this, but by a different author. You can CLICK HERE for my review.

Love triangle, yes or no?

I am in the minority here, but I LOVE love triangles. I think most romance books don’t have much intrigue, and love triangles adds some spice into it. I know a ton of people like your everyday romance novel, but I find it hard to finish them when I know the outcome. Obviously, the two love interests will end up together in the end! A love triangle can keep me guessing, which I LOVE!

The most recently book you couldn’t finish?

I love Lisa Jewell’s books, so I assumed this one would be another one of hers that I loved. However, It wasn’t. I don’t know if it was just me, but I was SOO confused through this whole book.

I had a really hard time remembering certain characters from other ones. I was almost half through the book before I realized there were two characters whom I thought were the same character.

When I made it to 65%, I realized I was still not into it and just looked up the ending. I still fully plan on reading more of her books, but this one was not for me.

A book your currently reading?

I am currently writing this on Friday, and am 30% through my reread on Vampire Mountain by Darren Shan. This is the 4th book in the Cirque Du Freak series. This one and the next one are probably my favorites within this series! I really wanted to finish my reread of this series in 2021, so I need to read 2 to 3 of them per month to do so.

Cirque Du Freak is a middle grade about a boy named Darren who steals a giant spider from a vampire. Something happens involving this spider that results in him having to become a vampire himself. The whole series follows him over a few decades on his vampire journey.

I don’t think this is a good series for kids. I read it originally at 16 or 17. The books are just really violent at times. There is a scene in one of the books where a child is violently murdered by a werewolf and I don’t think kids would be up for this series, despite it being middle grade.

Last book you recommended to someone?

I think this is the last book I recommended to my husband. I tell him about all the books I read. I recently read the first 2 books in the Wicked Villains series and I’m just genuinely curious to see if he would like smutty books! I honestly think he would if he just have them a try.

Oldest book you’ve read by publication date?

I think this is the oldest book I’ve read. This book was written down in the 800 BCE.

I’ve recently bought a copy of this one because I wanted to read it again. I LOVED reading so many Greek books back in high school and I would love to read them again after being more educated on the subjects.

Newest book you’ve read by publication date?

Battle Royal came out on the 16th of August. I had an ARC of it from Netgalley.

I really enjoyed this one! I love foodie books and this one was a rivals to lovers baking competition where the two Sylvie and Dominic have to compete to make a wedding cake for a royal family member.

Dominic was for sure based on Paul Hollywood mixed with the attitude of Gordon Ramsey and you can’t convince me otherwise!

Favorite author/s?

My favorite authors are Stephen King, Sophie Kinsella, and Alex Gino. There are a few other authors that are ALMOST favorites, like Lisa Jewell, Jacqueline Woodson, and Brandon Sanderson, but are not quite there.

Buy books or borrowing?

BOTH! I think I read a fair amount of both! I have this fear of buying books that I won’t like, so I like trying things out from the library first. I also prefer to get stand alone books from the library and buying series.

To the left is my current breakdown of where I got the books I’ve read in 2021. I have almost 30% of books I own or bought this year and around 60% are books from Libby, Hoopla, and physical books from my library.

A book you dislike that everyone seems to love?

I read The Fault in Our Stars back in 2013 when I had a Booktube channel and I was TERRIFIED to tell anyone I didn’t like it. Back then, people were not so nice when you didn’t like a popular book.

I just really hate sick-lit. I hate the romanticiztion of sick people and the fact that every sick lit book starts and ends the exact same way. I’m avoiding any and all sick lit from now on.

Bookmarks or dog earring?

I don’t care what other people do to their books, but I DO NOT dog ear mine and hope no one else dog ears my books either. If I don’t have a bookmark, I will use a wrapper, receipt, use another book if I have to, or even just remember the page number before I would dog ear a book!

A book you can always reread?

You guys know I don’t love rereading books, but I think the answer would be the Cirque Du Freak series. I’m up for rereading it every 10 years or so! It’s been about 10 years since I read them and am currently rereading them.

I have this exact box set shown to the left! The only reason I do reread is if it’s been a really long time, so I don’t remember much about the series.

Can you read while listening to music?

Not anymore. I used to be able to before I was into Kpop. Now, it is so dang hard to read a book with my kpop going because of the dancing aspect. I just can’t listen to the book without doing some of the dances, even if it’s just the hand movements. If you like kpop, let me know if you do this!

One POV or multiple?

I think I like multiple over one POV. I just think it adds so much to the story! I really love that format of thrillers where there are 3 or more POVs and one is in a different timeline leading up to the others.

Do you read the book in one sitting or over multiple days?

I prefer to read books as fast as possible. I think I just get anxious to know the ending. However, I’ve been actively trying to read bigger books and fantasy books slower. I just think I appreciate those kinds of books more if I read them slower.

Who do you tag?

Honestly, anyone who sees this and hasn’t done it yet! I know most people have done thins tag, including myself, so do it if you haven’t yet!
