Down the TBR Hole #9

Hello readers and welcome back to another edition of Down the TBR Hole. I’m only going to be doing 1 more of these posts this year. I just know the closer and closer I get to the current time, the less likely I’m going to remove books, which may make this a bit boring.

I think I’m going to start doing a few of these every year in December to clean up my TBR for the new year! I’m going to be doing Blogmas this year and I would love to have a few of these to throw in.

If you don’t know, Down the TBR Hole was created by Lost in a Story and is meant to help you go through your Want to Read shelf on Goodreads 5-10 books at a time and remove books from it.

Last time we ended with 136 books and this time are starting with 142.

A Soft Place to Land is the newest book by the author of From the Desk of Zoe Washington. This one comes out the day after this post goes up.

I’m really excited to read more by her and to see the movie for her previous novel. This one will be staying for sure.

I remembering seeing Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating when it had a cover reveal on Twitter. I just love a good, quirky title!

This one is about Hani, who comes out to all of her friends as bisexual. They laugh it off saying that she can’t be bisexual because she hasn’t dated a girl before. So, Hani panicks and tells them she is dating Ishu, a girl who Hani doesn’t really like, but in the end helps Hani with her fake dating plan.

I’m still excited to read this one at some point down the line.

Rhapsodic is a fantasy romance about a siren named Callypso and a bargainer, who I think is Fae. Once someone makes a deal with the bargainer, they get these beads that cannot come off until their debt is paid. Callypso has hundreds of these beads and is just waiting for the bargainer to come and collect.

I don’t know what it is about fantasy romance these days, but I just CANNOT get enough of it. I’m still really excited to get to this one.

The Red Palace is June Hur’s next book. I still haven’t read her 2nd book, which was on a previous Down the TBR Hole.

Just like her previous 2 books, this one is a historical mystery set in Korea, then known as Joseon. I’m excited to read it no matter hte synopsis, so it’s staying!

Parachutes is a YA contemporary novel about Asian children who are left in America to study while their parents stay back in their native countries.

I think I’m going to remove this one because I already have a middle grade book on my TBR by Yang that I want to read more and it’s been on too many of my TBRs already.

Sweep is a story inspired by Jewish folklore about a girl who is a chimney sweep and is stuck in a chimney fire one day. She blacks out and when she wakes up, she finds a creature called a golem.

I think this will be a really cute story and I’m excited to read it still.

When Stars Are Scattered is a non-fiction graphic novel about Omar and his little brother, who lived in a refugee camp for 7 years. His brother has a learning disability, so Omar has to take care of him. They both get the opportunity to get a visa and go to an American school, but this gives Omar anxiety about leaving his brother without him for hours at a time.

I still hope to read this in the near future at some point. I need to see if my library has it.

Root Magic is a middle grade book about two kids and African American folk magic. I know they are exploring their own heritage and abilities for using said magic in the story.

I’m keeping this one as well. I love these middle grade books about magic and friendship.

This one is a foodie cozy mystery series. That is all I really know about it. I’m going to keep it for now because I am slowly getting into this genre and I’m excited to try one by and about a person of color.

The Land of Stories is a portal fantasy middle grade series and that is all I need to know to get me hooked! It’s also by Chris Colfer, who played Kurt on Glee.

It is about two siblings who fall into a realm full of fairytale creatures and characters from classic fairytales. I just know this is a series I’m gonna love.
