The Personal Library Book Tag

Hello readers! I hope everyone is doing well! I’ve been doing great so far in September. I feel like I’m reading more than I have all year. Of course, what matters is the quality, not the quality, but I haven’t read much that I didn’t like recently either.

Today I have a tag post that I just saw the other day on Marta the Monogamist Reader‘s blog and I decided to do it. The original tag was created just last month by 24hryabookblog. Please go over to their blogs and see their answers if you would like to!

How do you organize the books on your shelf?

Well, for the most part, it’s by genre. I have shelf build into my bedroom wall with 6 shelves, plus a 3 shelf one in my room AND one in my living room, with a few books on my husbands shelf.

On the top of my wall shelf is vampire books, next is dystopian/paranormal books, third shelf is contemporary, 4th is high fantasy/SJM, and the bottom 2 are middle grade. For my yellow shelf in the bedroom, I have Brandon Sanderson on top, and a big mix of other genres that I don’t have many books in like scifi, thrillers, nonfiction, etc. In the living room, there is my Mom’s Harry Potter and mine on the top shelf, middle is classics, and just Dan Brown’s Robert Landgon series on the bottom. It may seem chaotic, but it makes sense to me.

Any particular aesthetic or niche genre of books you’d like to see more of on your shelves?

I want to have more high fantasy! I prefer to own books in series over stand alones and I don’t have very many high fantasy series on my shelf. I’ve only been into the genre for about a year and haven’t dived into it much.

Pick a book on your shelf and share the personal story behind it!

I didn’t know how to choose, so I just randomly generated a number and picked that book. The book I got was Metamorphosis and Other Stories by Franz Kafka. I took a world literature course in college where we had to read a ton of classics. Once we got to the realism era, we read Metamorphosis. Despite hating this literary era, I really enjoyed that one! I decided I wanted to read more by the author, so I bought that book. I have since read another of his stories, but haven’t read through that whole book just yet.

Name a book (or books) in your personal collection that people would be surprised to see that you own.

I think there are QUITE a few my readers would be surprised I own. One would be The Fault in Our Stars. I own EVERY John Green book and this one isn’t the exception. Before I met my husband, I didn’t own this one, but he likes it, so now we have it.

Unlike me, he does like sick lit and he LOVES this book.

I know I’ve mentioned a few times that I don’t like Cassandra Clare’s books, especially the Mortal Instruments series. However, I do own all the books.

I don’t know what it is about this series. I do actually dislike it a lot, but I enjoyed reading it! It taught me all the things I don’t like in books and I appreciate the series for that.

I do have spoiler reviews for 4 out of 6 of the books on my Goodreads where I talk about all the things I liked and didn’t like about that series, if you are interested.

What’s a book you own that is still on your TBR?

I have owned Cemetary Boys since it came out and have yet to read it! I just hate that I paid the price for a brand new book and didn’t even read it immediately. I usually buy books that are much older or used, so that was an odd move for me.

I just started a book club with some people on Twitter that focuses on spooky LGBT books and I’m sure we will read this one at some point.

Name a book (or books) you desperately want to add to your personal library.

When is A Court of Silver Flames coming to paperback? Seriously, I own all of the books in the series in those new colorful paperbacks and I am just waiting for this one to come out in one, too.

I can’t wait to get this book so I can finally read it. I know I can just listen to an audiobook or get it from the library, but I do like to tab my books and I don’t want to miss out on doing it.

Any particular goals you have for your collection?

I want to get some books that I’ve read from the library or on audio that I really loved. I have this fear of buying books that I turn out not to like, so I read so many books on audio. Basically, anything that have become a favorite for me in the last few years that I don’t own, which is most of them.
