Guilty Reader Tag

Hello readers! It’s Thursday again and that is the perfect time for another tag post. This time, it is the Guilty Reader tag created by a Youtuber named Read Like Wildfire, whom I think no longer exists along with the original video.

This tag is all about reading habits you might feel guilty for doing, so let’s just jump right into it. Please let me know if you have done this tag so I can see your answers!

Have you ever re-gifted a book you’ve been given?

I did once. My aunt gave me this giant bin of books and I gave some of them away to other people that I thought would like them more than me. At the time, I did not read any type of mystery or thriller books, so I didn’t see a use in keeping them. However, I don’t feel guilty about it because it was just a tote of books she didn’t want anymore, so I don’t think she would care that I gave them to other people.

Have you ever said you read a book when you haven’t?

I used to do this ALL the time as a teen and kid. I would DNF books, before I really knew that was a thing, and tell people I read the whole book. No one I know really likes reading, so they wouldn’t have the ability to quiz me on the book.

Have you ever borrowed a book and not returned it?

There was one time my mom had a copy of Casual Vacancy and let me borrow. I had this book for well over a year and eventually just got rid of it because she told me she didn’t want it back. She tried to read it and didn’t like it and I didn’t even get around to trying it.

Have you ever read a series out of order?

I’ve been reading the Narnia book in chronologic order, which is technically wrong. Other than that, I don’t think so. I always look books up on Goodreads before reading. I have accidently bought books in series in the wrong order, only to find out later.

Have you ever spoiled a book for someone?

All the time! My husband reads here and there, but not as much as I do. I tell him all about most the books I read from the beginning to the end, unless I know he might read it one day. I have done the same to my mom a few times. She used to read when I was younger, but doesn’t do it much anymore. I just read some really interesting books sometimes and I just have to tell someone!

Have you ever dog-eared a book?

No. I don’t do that. I will use anything as a bookmark before I would ever do that. I would even just remember the page before I bend the corner of a page. If I can’t find a bookmark, I’m sure I can find a random receipt or empty wrapper to use instead!

Have you ever told someone you don’t own a book when you do?

No. I am not into shaming people for what they read. I’m not afraid to tell people I own Twilight, erotica, or anything else they deem to not be real literature.

My husband is a big theology fan and because of this we have this big shelf of religious books. We have copy of bibles from all different religions, and I feel like that is the only thing that people would really question, but I wouldn’t lie and say we don’t have them!

Have you ever told someone you haven’t read a book when you have?

I’m pretty sure I haven’t done this before, unless I have and don’t remember.

Have you ever skipped a chapter or section of a book?

I do this all the time when I want to DNF a book. Sometimes I want to know the end, but I don’t want to actually have to finish the book, so I’ll skip to the last few chapters. Most of the time, I will just read a spoiler review to find out.

I do skim read a lot. It’s just a habit that I’ve picked up in life, but I’m not sure why. It hasn’t really effected my ability to read a book and fully understand it. What I usually skip over are those HUGE chapters that take up most of the page. They just make me anxious and I don’t like reading them sometimes.

Have you ever bad mouthed a book you actually liked?

I’ll be the 1st person to tell you things I didn’t like about books I did. There is usually one thing I don’t like, at the least. I feel like it’s important to highlight things you didn’t like to help other readers find a book they know they will love.
