Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

Hello readers! Today’s post is a tag! I do not do these enough. We are quickly approaching the end of 2022. I feel like this year went by so fast!

This time last year I had read twice as many books. As of today, I have read 40 books.

Best Book You’ve Read in 2022

Despite not reading much in 2022, I have had quite a few 5-star reads. Here are two favorites, PLUS the one that answers the next question.

Best Sequel You’ve Read in 2022

I had only heard bad things about this series following book one. However, I cannot relate to those reviews. Crazy Stupid Bromance was easily my favorite in the series. I feel like I can relate to both the main characters. They both struggle with losing their parents at a young age. I lost my dad at 20, so I was here for that representation.

Losing a parent at a young age comes with a lot of missed moments. Because my dad died when I was 20, he never saw me get married. He never even met my stepdaughter and only met my current husband twice. I LOVED this book and I cannot wait for the next one in the series.

New Release You Have Yet to Read

House of Earth and Blood was probably my favorite book of 2021. I loved reading it and I CAN NOT wait to get to this one. I just haven’t been to the bookstore in a long while.

Next time I make it to the store, Maas is at the top of my priority list. Not only for this book, but for A Court of Silver Flames, too.

Most anticipated release for the 2nd half of the year

Amari and the Night Brothers was such a good book! Amari is such an amazing character and role model for kids her age. I honestly believe anyone of any age can enjoy it. I can’t wait to see this one come out and see everyone talking about it again.

Biggest Disappointment

Both of these books are 2022 releases by authors I have both loved and hated books by. I was a little bit too excited for both of these and both were let-downs. In I Kissed Shara Wheeler, I really disliked Shara as a character. She was your basic manic pixie dream girl and I hated it.

The House Across the Lake was too many books in one. I was on board until the first twist and it lost me. It had an aspect that no one could’ve seen coming and just got worse from there. If you’ve ever read The Woman in the Window, this book had a ton of similarities. From the alcoholic narrator to spying on neighbors.

Biggest Surprise

I was VERY hesitant to try Skyward. I was not a sci-fi reader, but I thought I HAVE to try it because it’s Sanderson. I don’t regret it at all! From this book on, I have tried many different sci-fi books this year and I think I like it now.

I am by no means a HUGE sci-fi fan, but it is one of my most read genres this year. I can’t wait to read this entire series. Skyward made me realize I can like sci-fi and what I do like within the genre.

Favorite new author

Technically I read Lyssa Kay Adams in 2021, too. I read Bromance Book Club in December. HOWEVER, I have solidified er as an author I am interested in reading a lot more. I can’t wait to see what she does with the rest of the series and outside of it. She just writes really good characters. I don’t think any of her characters are lacking.

New favorite character

I have too many to name here! Alexis, Noah, and Liv from BBC. The monk and the robot from A Psalm for the Wild-Built. The robot from The Wild Robot. I really like robot characters!

A book that made you cry

I don’t usually cry with books, but this one got me. So much happens here with Noah and Alexis and their families. This is absolutely my favorite in the series.

A book that made you happy

I love to see people standing up for one another! I love books with activism and standing up for what is right. This book is about classism but is told in a way kids can understand. It affects countries all over the world and is truly the root of evil.

What book/s do you need to read by the end of the year?

This book comes out TODAY! I am so excited to get to a retelling of a Poe tale. I am going to read the original and then this one to compare.

I don’t talk about it much on here, but Poe is one of my favorite authors. I hope to read more retellings of his work in the future!
