Reading Stats for the first 6 months of 2022

Hello readers! Today is all about my stats for the first 6 months of the year. I’m here to show you the stats and tell you if I am happy with them or not. I have been struggling to read ANYTHING in 2022, so I know they aren’t the best stats. I have a lot to work on, but we are here anyhow!

The first two charts here show the number of books (left) and pages (right) I’ve read each month. I think I’ve done okay this year. I just wish I had read more! This is just not a good reading year for quantity or really quality, to be honest.

This chart shows where the books I read came from. I have been using my library A TON this year. Libby, Hoopla, and Library are all from the library.

One big change is Spotify. I have been listening to story podcasts this year. I see story podcasts to books as TV shows are to movies. I’m really loving it and I’m counting them as books!

This one shows the age range of the books I’ve read. I am reading an overwhelming amount of adult books this year.

I don’t try to sway this one way or another, for the most part. I don’t have any goals one way or another in this category.

This one shows the format. In previous years, I only tracked audio vs ebook vs print, but this year I thought it would be fun to be more specific.

Only 10 percent of my reading has been plain, print books. I’m not surprised as I started reading a lot more graphic novels last year.

Audiobooks help me so much, my ADHD makes it so hard for me to read print books these days.

I was hoping to read more male authors in 2022. I just don’t like seeing this so unbalanced. I’m not even sure what made me start reading mostly female authors. We will just have to see what happens for the rest of the year.

This one is a new category this year! This tracks the age of the main character. I think I’ve done good with diversity, but I’m not reading many books with older characters.

If you are interested, OTHER has two different meanings. ONE, the book takes place over many years of the character or follows multiple timelines of the character at different ages. TWO, there are a lot of main characters of different ages and I don’t want to pick just one. For example, The Walking Dead. This story has many main characters from the elderly to children. I don’t want to pick just one to add for the age.

Yes, I am one of those people who tracks sub-genres! I just can’t do it any other way. In previous posts like this, I take out the sub-genres, but I thought I should keep it in this time. LET ME KNOW if you like it with or without. I always thought seeing it like this may be overwhelming for some.

If you’ve been here for a while, you might be surprised to see my top 2 genres as contemporary and sci-fi (I AM TOO). However, I’ve been exploring some new stuff in my reading this year. For the most part that has payed off. I’m just here for the ride, it seems.

This one is publication year. I’ve been reading a lot of 2022 releases. I started reading a lot more new releases in 2021 because I like the ability to vote for the Goodreads Choice Awards.

I get severe FOMO when I can’t even vote for a category or two. Sure, I can’t vote for every category, but I want to vote for some.

This last one makes me sad to even look at. I hate seeing self-published so low! I had such high goals for self-pubbed books in 2022 and I am at 3 PERCENT.

I am hoping to change that for the remaining of the year as I continue to try to read more.
