An autistic book lover

Stacking the Shelves #5

Hello readers! How has everyone been? It has been a crazy week for me, but a slow reading week I have been taking a bit of time off from reading, but I don’t mind it. I finished all my ARCs for September this week, so I’m feeling great.

I have a few new books this week, some are ARCs and others are just ebooks from Amazon.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. You can click the link to get all the details, but in short, it is for sharing your new books!

(ARC) Synopis from Goodread: She might be the queen, but mounting pressure from the old guard prevents Collette from making real change in Coralia. Following the death of her father, Collette dreams of peace and prosperity for her people. She wants to stop the Merscales trade and grow the economy through international cooperation. The nobility wants to maintain the status quo. When an important visit from the Nereid emissary is overshadowed by the brutal murder of Wrenn Almeida, Collette finds herself accused of murder by Wrenn’s sister, Rhoslyn. As tensions rise between herself, her half-brother Zephraim, and Rhoslyn’s supporters, the queen finds that her only choice is to flee the kingdom. Her allies—a trio of mercenaries, her aging guard captain, and her half-human lover—must stop at nothing to protect her. The Fractured City is the debut novel in the epic Legends of Coralia fantasy series. This book contains LGBTQ+ themes, violence, revenge, discussions of genocide, language, and sexual content.

Synopis from Goodreads: For the past seven years, Emersyn Jane Merona had been owned by a deadly mob boss and forced to service any lonely soul who found their way to Skarsrowe, a shady port town on the edge of the Baronian Sea. When Syn commits a murder and initiates a daring escape, she finds herself in the arms of her boss’ archrival, the legendary Captain Killian O’Donnell. After seeking refuge on his mysterious ship, Syn soon realizes that she may have traded one form of danger for another. Desperate to regain her freedom, she falls back on all the old tricks she used to survive her indentured servitude. Just when she is ready to give up, a murdered siren changes her fate and the Lord of Lost Souls, Malakai Barron, drags her down into the underworld. Through a deal brokered by someone from her past, Syn now has to try to earn her freedom from not one, but two key players in the dark underworld. Though it seems impossible, opportunity strikes when Malakai’s missing sirens reappear and Syn is given the chance to investigate. Who is taking the sirens? And why does their song haunt her dreams? As Emersyn uncovers the demons of her past, will the monsters of her future be kept at bay, or will she become another lost soul anchored to the bottom of the sea?

Synopsis from Goodreads: Ava -I’m not intimidated. My boss sent me to deep backwoods Vermont to get Garland McGrumpypants—I mean McGuinty, to sell some of his lucrative landholdings on Silver Mountain. And I NEED this commission. McGrumpy only likes kids, animals, and his giant axe… he definitely doesn’t like me. When our meeting goes horribly wrong, and an avalanche causes my car to be nearly crushed under a pile of snow… I’m rescued by the massive hermit himself. No cell service, no road access, no escape. I am STUCK with Grumpy, and this Christmas couldn’t get any worse!

Garland -Her name is Ava, and she’s the unluckiest woman I’ve ever met. She spills every drink she touches all over herself, she trips over her shadow… and somehow, when she comes around, the whole mountain falls apart. So why do I have a strange urge to protect her and take care of her? Damn this crazy woman. She will be the death of me.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Twenty-year-old Ash’Arah is forced from her home as payment for the cure that healed her city. She will train to become a conduit, wielding magic for the good of the isle in Felgren Forest, led by the very man who took her. She refuses to go quietly, however, taking every opportunity to show Baron Heimlen that she does not intend to stay, no matter how powerful her magic appears to be. But when a closely guarded secret is revealed, she cannot deny her role as the forest’s savior any longer, nor her newly ignited passion for Heimlen’s successor, Baron Revich.
Karus is a woman who wanders the forest in an endless string of days until she discovers a stone embedded in a fallen tree. Holding it, memories of her past awaken, and she is forced to confront what her heart has tried to hide and the secrets withheld from her.
And as the fate of the forest falls into question, these women must face the truth of who they are, who they are destined to become, and who they love before they are consumed by the weight of what they have been chosen to bear.

Synopsis from Goodreads: Emery is a climate activist and cinematographer filming in Antarctica. While there, she encounters Jack Frost, who saves her life. The last thing Emery wants is a charming stalker ice god screwing with her scientific view of the world; but she can’t help being curious about Jack’s ongoing war with the fire goddess Auxesia. Emery’s association with Jack puts them both in more danger, even as they become emotionally and physically entangled. This book is a steamy romance based on the mythical character of Jack Frost, with an HEA and a number of favorite romance tropes, as well as themes of climate preservation and a holiday atmosphere.
