Down the TBR Hole #1

Hello readers! Today I am going to be doing a meme I have seen here on the bookish internet. It’s where I clean out my Goodreads shelf 5-10 books at a time and take you along in the process. I will be doing this every other Monday from here until we have gone through every single book on there.

This was created by Lia @ Lost in a Story.

Currently 152 books sit on my Goodreads Want to Read shelf. I know that isn’t a lot. However, I like it to be under 100. Most of these are books I don’t own. I don’t usually add books I own onto Goodreads. I like to use the Want to Read shelf as a reminder for other books I am interested in. If I hear about a new book, I will then hop over to Goodreads and add it to my TBR for later on.

Before we go any further, I want to disclaim there are affiliate ADs within this post.

In this round, I am planning to go over 11 books. I know, I know., it is supposed to be 5-10. I’ll do that after this time, I promise.

I’ve wanted to read this book for so long! According to Goodreads, it’s been 8 years since I added this to my shelf. I really want to read it, I just don’t know when I will. I was planning to add it to my TBR for June. The Buzzwordathon words for June are names and prefixes. This would be perfect! However, it just didn’t fit into my TBR. That doesn’t mean I won’t still pick it up, it just isn’t that likely.

For now, it will be staying on the TBR.

I heard about this one from a Booktuber named Ariel Bissett back in 2013. I haven’t watched her in quite a few years. Every December, I hope I get to this book and I don’t. I’m going to keep it for now, BUT I will 100% remove it if I don’t read it this year.

This is the sequel to Warm Bodies. I really love Warm Bodies the movie and the book. However, I just never find myself wanting to get this book. I made myself a rule in 2021. If I don’t read a book within a series this year, I have to DNF that series. That goes for every series I have ever started. So, like the previous book, this might be removed come January.

I might just have to do a post in January where I go through all these Down the TBR Hole posts and remove the ones I said I would in January. I feel like that might become a theme in the coming posts.

If you saw my book haul earlier this month, you will know I actually bought this book recently. I spent 2019 and 2020 rereading the original trilogy and now just need to continue it. I’m just afraid I won’t like it as much.

Like I said in the previous one, I will have to DNF this series if I don’t read a book in it this year. So, I will make sure that I get this one in before 2022. The motivation is higher for this one because I actually spent money on it.

This one is on the pile of my never ending Middle Grade TBR that only gets bigger and never shrinks. I think I’m going to remove it for now. I can always add it again later. I just don’t see myself starting a new series by Tahereh Mafi before re-finishing Shatter Me.

I do physically own a copy of this book, along with every other John Green book. This is the only one of his books that I haven’t read yet. I am going to remove it because I don’t think I’ll ever read it.

I did start this book last December. I don’t know what it is about short stories, but I find them very off-putting. I know this book is made up of 3 shorter stories that make an overall story, but just knowing there are short stories makes me never pick it up. I won’t be physically un-hauling it because my husband likes John Green books, and I know he would want to keep it. Along with myself, this is the only Green book he has not read.

I am 100% keeping this one on. It is the last book in a trilogy called the Tales of a New World. The only reason I haven’t read it is that I don’t own a copy. At some point this year, I will buy this book and read it.

This one is a middle grade stand alone. It is set on an island. I believe the people on the island accidently release book characters from the books they were written in. I haven’t picked this up because I wanted to finish the Mr. Lemoncello series by this author before reading this one. However, I just heard from the author himself that the Mr. Lemoncello series is not over. I am so thrilled to hear it and I will still read this one anyways!

This is the last book in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I haven’t read a book in this series in a long while. According to my series rule I set, I have to read this one in 2021. However, I won’t unhaul this series even if I don’t read it. I just really love this box set! I haven’t seen another like it.

I got this book out of a Little Free Library back in 2019. I don’t think I will ever read this, so I am removing it. I’m planning to do an unhaul post in July, and expect this book to be on there. I’m going to take a bunch of books to a Little Free Library, and this one will be going for sure.

I am removing this book, too. Honestly, I do own this book and I would get rid of it, but my husband wants to keep it. So, it will be staying in my house. However, I can say for certain that I will never read this book. I have no interest in Snow’s perspective and most people who I’ve seen read this book didn’t like it. I added it when it was announced and I didn’t know then what the book would be about. Now, I know and I am just not interested enough to try it.

The reason I did 11 books in this post, is because I saw this was the 11th book and I knew I was going to remove it. So, I thought, why not just remove it now?

Here we are at the end! In the beginning, I had 152 books on my Want to Read shelf. Now, we are down to 148. I did not think this would go this well in the very first post. However, please smash that like button if you would like to see me do more of these. I just love the process of un-hauling and seeing other people do the same, so let me know if you liked it!

    1. I’d like mine to get just below 100, and hopefully stay there. I can’t imagine sorting through 700 books!😲

You did a good job! I really loved Ari and Dante. It would make a good read for Pride Month (June) if that helps entice you! hah
