First Quarter Book Haul

Hello readers! Today’s post is about the books I’ve bought this year thus far. I’ve been trying much harder this year to not go too crazy when book shopping. I was planning to only buy books I’ve listened to from Libby and loved, but I broke that rule very early on! I do have a few books I’ve read and a few I haven’t, so the balance is good I think.

If you saw my first Down the TBR Hole from this year, I did remove this from my Want to Read list in that post. I am not even kidding when I tell you I went to the bookstore and found this on sale for 5 bucks.

My local bookstire is Books A Million. I’m always looking for books in the bargain sections or for books that are used. I am a bargainer at heart. This book was a used copy and was super cheap, so I grabbed it! I didn’t add it back to my Goodreads TBR, but it now on my physical one.

This one is about a girl who fights to join a boys hockey team. She wants to get into a team in college, but she has to be on a team before college to get there. When she joins the team, all the guys are giving her a hard time. Once they start hazing her, one of the boys assaults her in some way. She has to choose between speaking up and possibly risking her spot on the team and keeping quiet.

This book and the next one I found at my local library. They have this little shop and I was just browsing when I saw this one. I have read Pet before and decided I want it on my shelves.

This one follows a trans, non-verbal girl named Jam. She lives in this utopian society where monsters no longer exist. One day she is in her Mom’s studio and pricks her finger on a painting. This lets out a monster called Pet. Pet lets Jam know there is a monster lurking around town and it isn’t him. Pet and Jam journey to find the monster.

Trevor Noah was the host of The Daily Show from 2015 until very recently. I used to watch The Daily Show when it was Jon Stewart and a when Noah became host at the beginning. It used to be available on Hulu. Once they took it off there, I didn’t have any way to watch it after that. I know it’s on Comedy Central now.

This is all about Noah’s life from his childhood in South Africa to when he came to America. Even if you don’t know who he is, I think it’s a good non-fiction book to try out!

Then She Was Gone was my first book by Lisa Jewell. It was my favorite until I read The Night She Disappeared. I saw a used copy of it at BAM and had to grab it!

The one follows a woman named Laurel. 10 years before, her 15-year-old daughter Ellie went missing and just recently her bones were found. After finally laying her daughter to rest, she meets this man whose daughter looks like the spitting image of her daughter and she has a lot of questions.

Big Shot is the 16th book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. I am 2 books behind in the series and just decided to pick this one up when I found it in the kids’ bargain section.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is such a great series. If you like to laugh AND you like middle grade, this is a great book. I would also recommend it to kids of all ages. My 9-year-old daughter loves these books as much as I do. Greg is probably the most realistic child character I’ve ever read.

My local BAM doesn’t really carry any Brandon Sanderson books. I picked up Starsight, the sequel to Skyward because this is one series they do carry by him. I just thought he is such a popular author that they would have his books, but they really don’t.

I read Skyward about a year ago now and really want to get back into it!

Skyward follows Spensa, a girl whose father tried to flee from this space military when she was a kid. Usually, everyone has to take tests to get into the military, but people who are kids of a military member get an easy in.

The thing is, no one wants a cowards daughter in the military, no matter how good she is at flying. She has to prove herself much more than her peers to get this approval to stay in said military.

I read this one back in 2020 and just now got around to buying myself a copy. It follows Frances who is an amazing artist. She wins this opporunity for her art to be features on the social media of a podcast she loves called Universe City.

It also follows her new friendship with a boy named Aled. Aled is one of my favorite characters. I think I just relate to him a lot. Oseman really does his dirty in this book.

If you’ve read any of the Heartstopper series, he is also featured in there. I think that series takes place two years before this book.

I have been waiting to get this book for so long! I wanted to wait for the paperback to come out, as I have the whole series in paperback. Then it came out (FINALLY) and I didn’t get it until now.

This is the 4th book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. I think we are following one of Feyre’s sisters. I miss this world so much and I can’t wait to dive back in!

I just started buying the Throne of Glass books last year and now they have new covers. I am honestly going to get those new covers instead of the ones I have. I only have 3 books so far. Eventually, I’ll own all her books.

I scheduled this post to go up, then went shopping again. I found myself in the YA section and came across P.C Cast. I was looking for a book by her in a different series, which they didn’t have. However, they had some of her other books used that I hadn’t read before.

Lost and Forgotten are the 2nd and 3rd books in the House of Night Otherworld series, which takes place one year after the House of Night series. I read House of Night mostly in high school and used to love them. I can’t wait to read what happened next! I did read book one 5 or 6 years ago, so I’ll have to reread it for sure.

There is still one more book in this series I have to get. The final book in this haul is also connected to the series.

Kalona’s Fall is the 4th book in this House of Night novellas series. I don’t have book 3, but they are all stand alones. Each one follows a different character from the series before the series started.

It’s been a long time since I dived into this series, but it is nostalgic for me and I know I’ll love it!
